U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC6) has the unfortunate affliction of speech. In a recent article in The State newspaper, the 73 year old, seven-term congressman claims there are “barriers” in South Carolina that prevent black candidates from winning statewide office;
One of them, he said, is the state law that requires a candidate to win 50 percent plus one of the votes cast in a primary election. Often, that requirement forces black candidates into runoff elections that are harder to win, he said.
“That 50-percent-plus-one rule was put in in order to negate or minimize opportunity for African-Americans to win the primary,” he said. “It’s a very slick way to dilute the impact of the black vote.”
Clyburn said he wants S.C. law changed so a candidate only needs to get 40 percent of the vote when there are three or more candidates in a primary to win the nomination.
Let me be the first to say that racism is not dead. In fact, it may never die because some people will not let it. But unlike some people, I believe that we all are actually created equal and therefore black people are just as capable of the full range of emotions, including racism, as their white counter parts. We were not somehow left out of that line when emotions were past out. But then again, that is a discussion for another day.
Here is what I would like to say about people like U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC6). It is people like this that constantly tell others that black people are not as good as other people, therefore the bar needs to be lowered. On one hand he will tell you that we are equal but he spends his life asking the bar to be lowered because we are not as good as other people. It is leaders like this that are constantly telling white people that we are indeed unequal while calling anyone white person racist that agrees with him. Isn’t he by definition a racist in that he believes that one group of people is inferior by birth based on skin color? Wasn’t this the belief of the Klan? The funny this is that if anyone says that blacks should be judged by the same standards, such as winning 51% of the vote to win an election, is called a racist by people like him. Isn’t it time to get rid of these type of race hustlers in leadership positions that do no more than tell our young people that they cannot succeed simply because they are black?
Finally, isn’t it the height of hypocrisy of a 7-term black congressman that has won office to say that a black man cannot win? Like a true liberal, he believes that he himself is somehow better than your average black person and that other blacks are incapable of accomplishing what he has. Instead of setting the example and telling others how to accomplish what he has and inspiring others to high achievement, he wants to close the gate behind him by telling others they are not good enough. Thus insuring their further dependence on him and perpetuating a cycle of poverty that has destroyed the black community. It is people like him that continues to enslave the black community. It is not someone ominous conspiracy by “the man”. This is being perpetuated on us by our own people.
Just like it was us that sold ourselves into slavery for the benefit of the white masters for financial gain during the slave trade, it is political leaders like this that is selling the black community into mental slavery for political and financial gain today.
Call it what it is people. Wake up!
Just sayin’.

Well said. This needs to be widely circulated. I will do my part!
